3M Automotive Aftermarket Division Launches New
Series of Standard Operating Procedures for Aluminum Repairs
3M Provides Products and Solutions for High-Strength Aluminum Repairs
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 4, 2014) – With more high-strength aluminum showing up in cars, repairs have become more challenging. More importantly, there is a lot of confusion and misinformation in the marketplace.
3M Automotive Aftermarket Division has the answer with a new set of standard operating procedures (SOPs) -- along the products and tools to go with them -- to tackle these jobs in an efficient and cost effective way. These new SOPs can be found online at 3MCollision.com/sops.
3M™ Automotive Aftermarket Division Revolutionizes Heavy Duty Metalworking Process
with an Expanded Lineup of Cutting and Grinding Products featuring
3M™ Cubitron II™ Technology
3M Cubitron II Technology for Weld Removal, Grinding, Paint Removal and Panel Cutting/Sectioning Helps Collision Repair Professionals Work Faster, More Efficiently
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 4, 2014) – Heavy duty metalworking can take its toll on tools, abrasive products and the collision repair professionals who use them. Key steps of the disassembly process like weld removal, grinding, panel cutting/sectioning and paint removal quickly wear down traditional abrasive discs and file belts, which means technicians have to repeatedly stop and replace them, and the limited life means technicians have to exert more effort to achieve the desired results.
Oh Hail! Don’t Let Hail Season Slow Your Repair Time
3M™ Dynamic Mixing System Speeds Hail Dent Repair with More Efficient Filler Delivery System
Technicians Can Fill 100 Hail Dents in Less than 15 Minutes
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 4, 2014) – Hail season is sweeping the country with violent storms, and without a doubt, auto body repair shops will be busy repairing the damage. Collision shops are challenged to balance the workload and maximize profits but still deliver quality repairs and eliminate waste. Every minute spent mixing, cleaning and reworking repairs represents dollars down the drain.
3M Automotive Aftermarket Division has a better solution for hail damage repairs -- stop mixing and start fixing!
Collision Repair Shops Finding Endless Applications for
3M™ Cubitron™ II File Belt Sander
Technicians Are Experiencing Huge Benefits in Work with High-Strength Steel
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 4, 2014) – Collision repair body technicians are experiencing huge time and cost savings with 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division’s 3M™ Cubitron™ II File Belt Tool. With many of today’s automotive panels being constructed of high-strength steel, traditional ways of removing spot welds with drill bits during disassembly is now more expensive, time-consuming and harder on the technician. With the 3M Cubitron II File Belt Tool, that process is now easier and faster, saving both time and money.
What’s Different about Aluminum Repair?
Differences in Aluminum and Steel Can Impact the Repair Process and the Results
Technical Tips from Shawn Collins, 3M Automotive Aftermarket Technical Expert
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 4, 2014) – Have you heard about the 2015 Aluminum F-150? Of course you have, unless you’ve been living in a paint booth somewhere. Aluminum is the topic du jour and the hype is only escalating.
The collision repair industry has been through significant changes before and has weathered the storm just fine. Need I remind you of the unitized structure, waterborne paint, ultra-high strength steels and Lean Manufacturing? Early adopters and shops that have been adjusting to these curve balls as they came along will have little difficulty making aluminum repairs mainstream. For shops that have not adjusted as the industry changed it may take a little more time and investment, but now would be a good time to make those upgrades.
Steel Yourself for Changes
New High-Strength Steel Poses Challenges for Repair Time and Materials Costs
Technical Tips from Branden Loesch, 3M Automotive Aftermarket Technical Service Engineer
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 4, 2014) – The collision repair industry is seeing more vehicles with high-strength steel, posing some new challenges for technicians. As OEMs push to meet future CAFÉ standards, they are looking to new alternative body materials that provide greater strength to meet crash and rollover standards, while also allowing them to lighten the vehicle to reach the 54.5 MPG goal for 2025. The change in part composition is sure to impact your shop’s repair time and materials cost. What actions can you take today to improve your processes for tomorrow?
Select the Right Orbit Size for the Best Results
Large Orbit Tools Can Significantly Impact Your
Abrasive Cut Performance and Increase Production in the Shop.
Technical Tips from Adam Spah, 3M Automotive Aftermarket Technical Expert
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 4, 2014) – There is often a perception in the auto body industry that the sander of choice is dependent upon what part of the shop it is used in. In some cases this is true, but there is much more to consider. In the past, tool companies have touted the orbit of a dual action sander by “coarse throw” and “fine throw.” This has given the industry a false sense of what the orbit does to the performance of an abrasive disc.
The assumption has been that coarse throw or large orbit tools are used with coarse grade abrasives, while fine throw or small orbit tools are used with fine grade abrasives. With further investigation and testing, this has shown to be a false way to look at sanders and applications.
When It Comes to Compounding, Size Drives the Preferred Process
3M Offers Perfect Solutions for Small, Medium and Large Paint Finishing Jobs
3M Paint Finishing Experts Provide Tips on Choosing the Right System for the Project
ST. PAUL, Minn. (November 4, 2014) – When it comes to paint refinishing, compounding is the most debated step in the process. For paint professionals, 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division offers two excellent systems – one with a compounding step and one without. But how can you tell which process is right for your paint finishing job?
The 3M paint finishing experts say size matters when selecting the best process to deliver high-quality results, as does the color of the vehicle.
